History of the Festival

The Brightwater Wine and Food Festival was established in 2004 by the Rotary Club of Richmond, as their main fundraising event of the year.  The festival was first held at Richmond’s A&P Showgrounds, but subsequently shifted to a beautiful vineyard setting close to Brightwater. While the event remains close to Nelson’s main centers (being around 20kms from Nelson and 8km from Brightwater), the rural setting, close to native bush makes for a relaxing  and memorable day in the sun with friends and family.

Positioned to enjoy the height of Nelson’s balmy summer,  the festival has grown in size and reputation. Now 3,000 – 4,000 people attend each year, delighting in the fantastic food, wine and entertainment the region showcases.  It’s bliss!

The Rotary Club of Richmond is an enthusiastic group of community-minded business men and women. The group  is extremely proud to have supported the following local charity causes with over $200,000 raised from the event since it's inception.
